Change is one of the hardest things, especially when you don’t want it to happen. I have been pushing against the current for the past month and I just can’t do it anymore. Sometimes you have to accept change and accept that people are going to change as well. And even though it hurts, especially when it comes from someone you love the most, you have to let it go. With change comes sadness and hurt, and that’s actually why I decided to re-do my room. I needed some brightness and happiness, and a fresh start. And let’s be honest, there is nothing better than a little retail therapy.
I’m usually not an orange person, but I saw this and it just screamed happiness. I’ve had my white comforter since I moved out to LA and for a while I loved the vibe it gave off: fresh, bright, and simplistic. But since going through this time of change, my room just seemed so dreary and sad. The best way to get over a huge change is to get rid of the things that will trigger old memories and make you take a few steps back. So, I packed away my TV and my Wii (yes, I had my Wii from high school in my room), some pictures, and my dreary white comforter.
I replaced all of this with brightness, vibrancy and happiness. When I first moved to LA, I found the cutest furniture store in Burbank and I splurged on these unique, one of a kind dressers. I’ve always dreamed of having furniture like this in my room. I love color, which is ironic because if you know me I only dance in all black clothing. But when I’m living my “normal” life I just can’t get enough of it. Target is one of my favorite stores right now because they honestly just nail it. This quilt reminds me of the beautiful quilts at Anthropologie but for a quarter of the price! For only $70 you get the quilt, 2 shams and 2 decorative pillows. I decided to only use one of them because I already had some from before, but come on, that is a great deal! Plus, there’s no pressure to buying this quilt. If I’m over it by the end of summer, I can think of this as a guilt free purchase. The orange compliments the blue in the dressers because of the blue accents in the quilt. Also, with summer coming, I needed something a little bit lighter to sleep with because it gets hot in the Valley. I am obsessed with plants, but I am not the best at keeping them alive. So, I decided to cheat a little and get some cute, artificial plants from Ikea. I love Ikea. Everything you ever need for your home in one spot. To add to my plant collection, I added a trailing vine plant. Even though it’s small it adds so much color and life. The last plant I got on my Ikea trip are these cute little pink and white flowers, and matching pink and tan vases to go with them.
Re-doing my room is the first tiny step in trying to mend my broken heart. I’m choosing happiness and I’m being forced to choose me for the first time in a long time, and even if it’s as small as adding some color to my life, anything helps.
