I washed my face with honey for 7 days, and this is what happened…

I am always trying to find the best skin care and face wash that will hopefully give me the skin of my dreams (aka clear from breakouts, hydrated, and glowing). However after many trials and lots of wasted money later I usually end up frustrated. Yes, recently I have found some clean products that work really well with my skin, but I still suffer from some acne whether it’s my diet, hormonal acne or the Los Angeles pollution, or all of the above! (lol, being a girl is tough). However, the other day I was talking with my roomie/bestie and she was talking about her friend with perfect skin who washes her face with honey. And boom, the thought actually wasn’t that crazy. Imagine the irony after countless trials and tribulations, (potentially) the perfect cleanser was in my pantry all along.

After this conversation I started to research and honey has some amazing qualities to it. I came across this article from The Everygirl (a website I’ve loved for a long time) and here is a little excerpt of the benefits of honey on the skin:

“-It has antibacterial and anti-septic properties, so it gets rid of dirt and bacteria, perfect for both preventing and treating acne

-It’s full of antioxidants and boosts collagen production—two things that are MVPs in preventing aging and boosting glow

-It’s extremely moisturizing and hydrates even the driest of skin.

-Honey is naturally soothing and has healing properties (it was traditionally used on wounds to aid healing!). It also nourishes damaged skin to fade scars (like those pesky acne scars!).

-It works as a clarifying agent because it naturally opens up pores, making them easier to unclog.

-The enzymes work as a gentle exfoliator, sloughing off dead skin cells and leaving you with a radiant complexion.”

If this doesn’t sell you on honey, then I don’t know what else will, because these are the very things I search for in the countless skin care products I put on my skin twice a day.

I’ll give you guys a day by day journal of my experience with honey to see if there were any drastic changes I noticed. Let the experiment begin…

Day 1 and 1/2:

Okay, so I started this experiment at night so thats why there is a 1/2 lol (keeping this experiment honest). So far so good, I was expecting the honey to be super sticky. After reading some more articles, a tip I read was to put in a big headband with your hair up and wet your face first and then put some warm water on your hands and then drizzle the honey on to make it warm and easier for it to break down. Also you can let it sit on your face for a second while you wait for your shower to warm up or brush your teeth just to let it set for a little. Overall I don’t notice too much of a difference but that is a good thing because I don’t see any new breakouts either.

Here are some headbands great for washing your face and putting your makeup on:

Day 2:

I am very impressed with honey. Not gonna lie I’ve never liked honey (bad experience in high school (lol @ dad)) but right now it’s making a comeback for sure. Overall my face looks smoother and softer and it even has a glow to it. I do have a few tiny little pimples that popped up but the ones that were there when I started have gone away completely. Overall very happy with the results. On to day 3…

Day 3:

Okay, so today I woke up with a very decent size soon to be white head on the left cheek. I’m not convinced it’s due to the honey solely. It could be effects of my mask I’ve been wearing, normal acne, or from all the sugar I ate on my birthday (thank you ice cream cake). Regardless that does make me sad because so far I am loving using honey as a face wash. My skin could possibly be detoxing so this could just be a little bump in the road.

Day 4:

The giant pimple on my cheek has seemed to almost completely disappear. Last night I didn’t put any of my usual acne fighting products on to see just how well the honey works and I am impressed! Overall my skin feels the most hydrated it’s ever felt (and I haven’t been using my normal moisturizer either just my eye cream at night) and the texture looks very even. Also, I read honey is great for stubborn small black heads (which is a problem for my nose area) and I notice those blackheads look smaller or even that there are less of them. Good day for honey 👍🏼.

Day 5:

So far honey is winning with fighting any acne I have. I am shocked at how well it has worked to cure any little zits that appeared. Overall nothing new to report other then my skin tone is looking nice and even and my skin is feeling very hydrated.

Day 6:

Again another amazing day with honey. I am really convinced this is the best face wash, for my skin at least. I don’t feel like there is any residue on my skin like I sometimes feel after using other face washes. My skin is really loving this honey.

Day 7:

Last day and I am officially a honey believer (beeliever dare I say lol). I love how my skin looks in just one week and I’m excited to see what another week will do. I love how natural products, time and time again, prove to be the best for us. Overall I am excited with how many benefits come from washing your face with honey.

Let me know if you try this and how you like it! Any honey will do, try and find one that is natural and organic. Good luck!!
